Organizing feeds

How to use Telegram groups, chats, and channels to organize your feeds in a convenient way and reduce unnecessary distractions.

Grouping feeds #

You can use Telegram groups to organize your feeds by topic or other criteria. Here are the simple steps:

  1. Click the 📝 button -> New group.
  2. On the “Select Users” screen, search for Octomat.io Bot and select it. Click Next.
  3. Give your new group a meaningful name that and add a picture if you like. Then click Create.
  4. You will see the group chat with Octomat showing the list of available commands. Right after creation, a group does not have any feeds in it. Use the normal commands to manage the feeds in this chat.

The subscriptions you add to a group won’t be shown in other groups or chats. If you use /unsub_all command, it will only unsubscribe you from feeds in the current group.

Moving feeds between groups #

Once you’ve created a group, you can move feeds to it from other groups or chats. Here’s how:

  1. Open the group or chat where you want to move feeds to.
  2. Call the /list_all command to see the list of all your feeds across all the chats. These feeds are shown in alphabetical order, and each of them has number on the left.
  3. Call the /move command and specify the number of the feed or feeds you want to move which you can see in the list from the previous step. For example, /move 14 will move the 14th item from the list, and /move 1, 2, 3 will move the first three feeds to the current group.
  4. After execution of the command, an updated list of subscriptions in the current chat will be shown.

Notification tuning #

By default, Telegram will send you push notifications for every new post. You can mute notifications on a per-chat basis:

  1. Find the Octomat.io Bot or a group chat in the Telegram chat list.
  2. Long tap or right click on the chat to open the context menu. Click the Mute button.
  3. Choose the duration for which you want to mute notifications.

You can use different groups to have different notification settings for different feeds. For example, you can have a group for feeds that you want to get notified about immediately, and another group for feeds that you want to check less frequently.
